Don’t tell Erika (or Wayne 😂😂) but oddly I get my best writing done Wednesday nights at the bookstore between customers (when I should be cleaning or making displays or updating social media).

Hi,

I mostly write in my office. It's set up beautifully with book shelves, a large monitor, and an echo dot for music (music is a must!). But I have written on my laptop in the living room. I've never found that writing in public spaces works for me. But I do think about my writing and solve plot holes in bed, usually while I'm trying to fall asleep.

I love the idea of solving problems in bed before going to sleep!! And thank you! I feel like writing at home at my desk might end up being a top option. Your setup sounds beautiful!

I do like to write outside on my deck in the morning. I have a table with an umbrella that blocks just enough sun. And I can handle down to about 40 degrees! But sometimes my fingers get cold…

Oooo an outside spot at home! Interesting… I think I can use that!

I write in the same spot I do everything else: at a lap desk in bed. Since my time is usually unstructured, I have all day to make my quota, but I'm happiest if I can get the writing in as the first task after feeding the cat, washing my face, and coming back to bed with that protein shake. This is more easily done when I know what the game plan is for the section being written—either way I open the document first thing to (1) just write, or (2) start marinating on what's needed and fetch back research until there's enough to work with.

Oh I’ve been thinking about this particular advice from you a lot!! Having a good plan/direction before I sit down to write is going to be crucial.

I don't have particular writing spaces (tho it's often not in my office/at my desk, lol) but I do just want to say that you should absolutely entertain false starts/not overmaster your time too hard at first. You can get more regimented once you're in a zone, but you absolutely should not expect to instantly get in a zone. False starts are important!

Goodness, it’s so wise of you to remind me of this. I needed to hear that. Thank you!!
